food for thought
secretly.........we all acknowledge that nintendo was the greatest gaming system ever created by man.......we are simply just afraid to admit to it
one criticism though... whether you meant to or not, to me the lips look kinda off balanced.. the top one is raised to much and the bottom one goes too high up... just a small thing i noticed, this was the only thing that made me realize it wasnt a photo when i was looking at the preview..
great job

The thing that really strikes me about the peice actually isn't the detail, it's the emotion expressed by the wolf. The way it stares and shows it's teeth... even the flattened ears convay anger. The way it snarles it's skin above its nose... the way it pulls the lip up... the positioning of the head... perfect.
The detail in the fur alone is astonding. The blending, the use of colors, the markings around the eye, ear, mouth, and neck are so life like. Reminds me of the opposite when ppl dye their hiar a solid color. And the brush strokes are hardly visible.
The eyes nose and teeth have exceptional detal. The light gleems across it, but warps along the pupil. It is noticably sphereical with all the suptle hues an eye needs to be realistic. The nose sharped and contured so carefully, with hints of shimmer to make it look wet. There are even thin wiskers right next to it. The mouth has clear lips, gums, and teeth. The lips just seem to hint through at the front, then seep back into the mouth. The Gums were beautifully blended between the black and pink, with just a little shimmer. There are ever drops of water around the lower part of the mouth.
The bluryness of the background, the detail of the face, and the partial blur of the body make this so photo-realist. A simple but effective way to do so. A technique often used in computer animation I might add.
Now for the fun part... the questions.
If I might inquire, why a wolf? They are beautiful creatures, but with their own symbolism in our cuture. Why does the wold not look directly at the viewer? An eye to eye look might have futher expressed it's posture. And why so few details in the background? The technique may have worked just as well.
Just curious as too how you decied these things, and if there is any symbolism (intentional or unintentional) involved.
Hope you enjoyed my comment...
...sorry if it's too long.
